One of our future wheelchair racing Paralympians Olivia Gallagher made a surprise visit to the our tent at the finishing line of the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 10th October 2021. Olivia is in training for next year’s Birmingham Commonwealth Games and the 2024 Paris Summer Paralympic Games.
Olivia, who was born with cerebral palsy, was also named Young Sportsperson of the Year in the Pride of Sport Awards and is presently the UK’s no.1 wheelchair racer in her class! Get Kids Going! is about to buy Olivia a new, custom built, hybrid top-end racing chair with the aim of improving her performance in the future.
She took pictures with a number of runners including Hannah, Siobahn and John Harrison who ran as a family team and George – pictured above.
We were delighted that many of our wonderful runners had the opportunity to meet Olivia and her family yesterday and see, for themselves, the fantastic work the charity is doing to support these amazing youngsters.
Olivia said “Well done to everyone today. I am forever grateful to have the support of Get Kids Going! on the journey to the top.”
Get Kids Going! greeted the Royal Parks Half Marathon runners with a welcome cup of tea and a Mars Bar at the finishing point at Hyde Park.
Brilliant day at the National Tennis Centre today with the US Open champions and some stars of the future.”
The stunning 13.1 mile race took thousands of runners through many of the capital’s world-famous landmarks on closed roads including four of London’s eight royal parks – Green Park, St James’s Park, Kensington Gardens and finishing in Hyde Park.
Jane Emmerson, Get Kids Going!’s CEO said “We hope you had a fantastic day and enjoyed being part of our wonderful team! Thank you all so much.
We would like to say how grateful we are for all your amazing support and kindness along with the big effort you have given to the charity and the many disabled youngsters who need our support right now.”
